NOVEMBER 7 - 13: Radio Centreville is holding its annual Radio-Thon fundraiser this week and we're asking listeners to help support the station and Jazz Boulevard.

For 36 years now, Radio Centre-Ville has reflected the multicultural and multilingual nature of Montreal. Currently the station broadcasts in 7 languages: French, English, Spanish, Greek, Portuguese, Creole, and Chinese: Mandarin& Cantonese.

OCT28 2011 :The MONTREAL ARAB WORLD FESTIVAL - 12th Edition runs from October 30th to November 13th with several jazz influenced events: Nov. 3 Jazzy Breeze, Nov. 6 Minor Empire, Nov. 10 Soul Soudani. The festival also runs a film series and a number of conferences. Visit their site: Festival


OCT21 2011 : The QUEBEC CITY JAZZ FESTIVAL continues until the end of the month – here in Montreal, the 19th edition of the MONTREAL DRUM FESTIVAL runs this weekend. And the ASTRAL continues to showcase Jazz talent the year round for example: Maeco Parker (10-27) and Michael Jerome Browne (10-29). Also note in Old Montreal, ESPACE 64 runs a jazz series the last Friday of the month.

UPDATE APRIL 22 2011: POSTPONED – The 2011 SOBA awards announced this week that due to the sudden illness of awards founder RUDDY ELOI, the awards show was indefinitely postponed. The awards were to be held May 1st 2011, at the Outremont Theatre. More news on the status of the 2011 awards will be forthcoming. Our thoughts and wishes for a speedy recovery go out to Ruddy.

DANCE: ROGER SINHA - AGORA DE LA DANSE – Choreographer Roger Sinha brings an interesting project to L'Agora this weekend inspired by a frightening personal experience, and which employs gaming technolgy to introduce the element of improvisation into the work.

FEB19 : JAZZ IN THE POINT is jazz concert programming coming from an up and coming 'new' jazz venue in Point St. Charles called Le Diable a Quatre. Regular Wednesday jam sessions have grown into some serious jazz programming. I dropped by this week's jam session to find Dave Turner and Cameron Wallis jamming along with house regulars.

JULY10 : Tonight Jazz Boulevard is dedicated to the memory of Len Dobbin. We feature a special opening set tribute to Len with a clip of the celebrated 'Friend of Jazz' himself opening his last show (special thanks to CKUT-FM for re-broadcast rights). ABOVE – Andre Menard, Co-founder & Artistic Director of the Montreal International Jazz Festival dedicates the remainder of the festival to Len.

 

Later in the program, we feature an interview with West African Guitarist Lionel Loueke performing at this year's Montreal International Jazz Festival.


 


JULY09 :
LEN DOBBIN (1935 - 2009) The Montreal Jazz community was shocked today to discover that long time broadcaster Len Dobbin passed away early this morning. Len had been doing what he enjoys most, taking in a concert at a local jazz club, when he suffered what became a fatal stroke.

It was what seems only a few hours earlier that Len and I had been talking at the press room of the Montreal International Jazz Festival – he was all that he has always been as we talked about this year’s shows. It is hard to believe that he is no longer there. My most sincere condolences to Len's family – it is a great loss to the Montreal Jazz community. (more information)
